You don’t need to be a whisky fan to enjoy an afternoon at SLYRS distillery, one of the best places to visit near Schliersee. Experience traditional local craftsmanship, enjoy fabulous food or hide from inclement weather with a dram or two. The multiple award-winning distillery relies on barley malt exclusively from Bavaria and mountain spring water directly from the Schliersee Alps. Selected editions are stored in a special high-altitude warehouse at the summit of the nearby Stümpfling mountain.
SLYRS Experience
In the SLYRS Experience rooms visitors can explore the heart of the distillery and experience whisky production up close. Distillery tours can be booked as a self-guided option or as part of a guided tour. We recommend the guided tour where visitors can learn more abour the specially developed SLYRS fermentation process. Keep your eyes peeled during the tour and you may well run into the owner between those giant American white oak barrels.
On completion of the tour, visitors have the opportunity to taste some of the more special creations including the SLYRS Mountain Edition or the SILD Crannog single malt whisky. A sample of the classic single malt is included in the ticket price. All editions are available for purchase in the distillery shop, where you can also find anything from jams to liquors and sauces as well.
SLYRS Caffee & Lunchery
Head up to the first floor where you’ll find the SLYRS Caffee & Lunchery, boasting one of the largest outdoor terraces here on the edge of the Alps. A diverse breakfast menu is served until 11:30 a.m., after which you can expect a seasonal lunch menu with local products until 2:30pm. Fish is delivered fresh from the Schliersee Fishery, pasta and jams are sourced from the Hennererhof in Schliersee. Even the flour comes from the local Leitzach mill.
If you want to get a place in the sun on the terrace at the weekend, you’ll need to make a reservation in advance. The Caffee & Lunchery is open from Monday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Directions & Parking
By car: Coming from Munich and passing through Schliersee, the distillery is located at the end of the Neuhaus district on the left-hand side. Parking spaces are available directly in front of the entrance ( location Google Maps).
By public transport: Take the BRB from Munich to Fischhausen-Neuhaus train station. From here it’s a one kilometer walk to the distillery.
Wasmeier & SLYRS Distillery Experience Ticket
The combined day experience ticket is ideal for visitors spending a whole day at Schliersee. It includes entry to the SLYRS distillery tour as well as the nearby Markus Wasmeier open-air museum, two of the most interesting attractions at Schliersee.
